Fani-Kayode, who served as director of media and publicity during the campaign of former president Goodluck Jonathan, is facing a 17-count charge bordering on unlawful retention, use, and payment of money in the tune of about N4.9 billion.
The EFCC had arraigned them on a 17-count charge bordering on unlawful retention, unlawful use and unlawful payment of money to the tune of N4.9 billion.
A planned arraignment of Fani-Kayode was stalled last Tuesday, June 21, by the absence of the trial judge and the former minister has since been in the detention of the ant-graft agency.
However, before he appeared in court on Tuesday, June 28, his spokesman, Jude Ndukwe, alleged that an officer of the anti-graft agency who assaulted Fani Kayode while in custody will be granted pardon because the agency want him dead because of his criticism of the policies of the current administration.
According to Jude Ndukwe, the operative named of Suleman Kabiru said “I will kill U, you infidel” to Fani Kayode as he read his bible.
Following the alleged threat to kill the former minister, the Nigerian social media space erupted with some commentators alleging that the current administration was persecuting Fani Kayode for being a member of the opposition.
But others said the treatment metedout to Fani Kayode was justified on the grounds that the former minster is guilty of graft.
